Here are some of our staff picks for the best family movies (past and present!)

THE PACIFIER (PG) For older kids. Former Navy SEAL (2005) Shane Wolfe (Vin Diesel) is handed a new kind of assignment — to protect the 4 kids of a scientist who is on a top secret mission. While both the scientist dad and soccer mom are away, Vin Diesel’s character must endure the “nanny demands” in suburbia, which seem far worst to him than any actions ever seen on foreign soil!
OVER THE HEDGE (PG) In this wacky animation, a celebrity filled cast provides the voices for a scheming raccoon, a gentle turtle and a bunch of energetic vermin who venture over the hedge to seek human food! (Make sure you watch the “out-takes” after the film. It’s almost as good as the film itself!)
HOMEWARD BOUND: THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY (G) Three pets — a young dog; an elderly, wise dog; and a snooty cat are left behind when their family goes on vacation. The pets don’t know what’s going on, so they set out to find their owners on this incredible journey!
Mary Poppins: (G) An oldie but goodie, this classic Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins won an Oscar for Best Actress. The film also took home an Oscar for Best Editing. The singing, dancing and magic of how they put this film together prior to all the computer special effects is worth the watch in that alone. The plot: Two misbehaving children have fun with a magical nanny and her chimneysweep friend.
THE GAME PLAN (PG) * For older kids. An NFL quarterback (Vin Diesel) living the bachelor lifestyle discovers that he has an 8-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. It’s a tale of tough guy turns softy, and cute girl stands strong. (Note: mom has passed away, and 8 year old is dealing with this.)
